Candle Care
1. Before Lighting
-
Trim the Wick: Always trim the wick to about ¼ inch (6-7 mm) before lighting it. This prevents excessive flickering and uneven burning.
-
Place the Candle on a Heat-Resistant Surface: Make sure the candle is on a stable, heat-resistant surface to avoid damaging furniture or surfaces.
-
Keep the Area Clear: Remove any flammable materials (like paper or fabrics) from the candle’s vicinity.
2. While Burning
-
First Burn: When you light a candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the wax melts across the entire surface. This prevents tunneling (uneven melting where wax is left on the sides).
-
Burn in 3-4 Hour Intervals: Don’t burn candles for more than 3-4 hours at a time to avoid overheating the container.
-
Monitor the Flame: Ensure the candle is always burning with a steady flame. If the flame flickers or smokes, extinguish the candle, let it cool, and then trim the wick.
-
Use a Candle Snuffer: When extinguishing the candle, use a snuffer to avoid splattering hot wax and minimize smoke. Blowing it out can cause excess soot.
3. Safety Precautions
-
Never Leave Unattended: Always keep an eye on a burning candle and extinguish it when leaving the room.
-
Keep Out of Reach of Children and Pets: Ensure the candle is in a safe spot where pets and children can’t accidentally knock it over.
-
Avoid Drafts: Keep candles away from vents, windows, or fans to prevent uneven burning or potential hazards.
4. After Extinguishing
-
Allow the Wax to Cool: Let the candle completely cool before moving it or relighting.
-
Store Properly: Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or warping.
By following these instructions, you’ll ensure your candles burn safely and last longer.
